Situated on a generous 858m² corner-influenced allotment in the established inner-north suburb of Essendon, the Ogilvie Townhouses represent Home by MM's considered response to contemporary medium-density living within a traditional streetscape.
The development comprises two substantial double-storey townhouses, each offering five bedrooms, multiple living zones, a cellar, study, and a private pool. Designed to deliver an uncompromising owner-occupier experience rarely associated with the townhouse typology.
Architecturally, the project draws on a layered material palette to mediate between the neighbourhood's predominantly single-storey brick character and the aspirations of a contemporary Melbourne lifestyle.
The ground floor is anchored in beige face brick, lending warmth and contextual grounding, whilst the first floor transitions to off-form concrete and off-white render, a deliberate compositional shift that reads as a floating upper volume beneath the broad, cantilevering eaves. Bronze vertical battens, Colorbond panel cladding, and powder-coated aluminium framing in bronze complete a restrained but sophisticated material language that weaves warmth and rigour throughout.
Street presentation is defined by a low 1.2-metre rendered and batten fence, electric sliding gates, and a curated landscape of olive trees and layered planting that softens the boundary condition and reinforces the sense of privacy without retreat. Generous 34m² future rooftop solar zones and 4,100-litre underground rainwater tanks connected to toilet flushing and laundry circuits reflect a genuine commitment to sustainable performance.
The Ogilvie Townhouses demonstrate that density done well need not be a compromise, it can, in fact, elevate the standard of inner-suburban living entirely.
