Positioned on a generous 658m² allotment in the quiet bayside suburb of Black Rock, Cheltenham Townhouses is a confident dual-occupancy development. We the project replaces an unremarkable single-storey brick dwelling and ageing tennis court with two four-bedroom townhouses whose formal language is quietly assured and materially rich.
The scheme's most striking gesture is its roofline, a series of asymmetric gabled forms clad in light grey standing-seam roof sheeting that read as a contemporary reinterpretation of the pitched suburban silhouette. Tall triangular glazed panels beneath each gable flood the upper-level living spaces with northern light, their powder-coated black aluminium frames providing sharp counterpoint to the warm off-white brick that anchors the main façade. Vertical charcoal cladding panels articulate the party wall zone and ground-level entries, lending each dwelling a legible individual address while maintaining the composition's unity.
At street level, a low 1.0-metre powder-coated batten fence, allows the landscaped front gardens to spill toward Cheltenham Road, softening what might otherwise read as an inward-looking development. The material palette is consistent throughout: off-white brick, rendered surfaces, charcoal vertical cladding, and black joinery.
Planning compliance has been carefully resolved. Each townhouse offers a private courtyard, double garage, and four bedrooms across two storeys.
